The Volunteer Recognition Committee promised something different this time around, and they delivered in a big way!
Guests were treated to music by cellist and medical student Zhou Fang, and buffet tables overflowing with delicious and hearty brunch fare. The festive décor and warm ambience made everyone feel welcomed and valued. Dr. Phillipe Michel, a physician in palliative care at the JGH, gave a fascinating presentation about his three tours of duty with Doctors without Borders, a non-profit organization that provides emergency medical assistance and relief supplies to people in crisis in 65 countries around the world. Dr. Michel described a typical day working under grueling conditions, treating vulnerable people who have no access to health care or medications. The brunch concluded with the distribution of certificates and beautiful butterfly pins to those volunteers celebrating service anniversaries with Hope & Cope.
Kudos to the Volunteer Recognition Committee: Co-chairs Charlene Freger and Barbara Hops, Carol Djoury, Bryna Hersh, Fran Roth, Eliane Telio and staff members Marcelle Kecman and Lora Tombari.
