We are delighted to announce that Joel King, widely respected community leader, Hope & Cope Board member and Past Co-Chair, has been awarded the Sovereign’s Medal for Volunteers. Awarded by the Office of the Governor General of Canada, this medal celebrates exceptional volunteer achievements. Joel was praised for his dedicated leadership, financial expertise, strategic advice and fundraising skills – all of which have helped to raise millions of dollars for, among others, Centraide of Greater Montreal, Federation CJA, Hope & Cope, the Jewish Community Foundation, the Jewish General Hospital, and the Alexandre Bilodeau Fund for Adapted Sports. Unfortunately, the official presentation ceremony was postponed due the coronavirus pandemic, but we hope to celebrate with Joel as soon as it is safe to do so.

We also extend heartiest congratulations to our very own Suzanne O’Brien, Chair of Hope & Cope, who received the Bernard Lapointe Award for her outstanding contributions to palliative care. Presented to her by the West Island Palliative Care Residence (since renamed the Teresa Dellar Palliative Care Residence), this award recognizes Suzanne’s stellar work in educating health care professionals and the public, creating innovative partnerships and projects and building community support for compassionate, dignified care at the end of life.

Bravo, Joel and Suzanne, on these well-deserved honours!
