At Hope & Cope, we understand the personal challenges cancer survivors face, including the impact of hair loss. To support our community, we proudly offer a wide selection of high-quality wigs at no charge. Our comprehensive wig database allows you to choose a style that fits your preference and personality, ensuring you feel confident and comfortable. In addition to wigs, we also provide cotton turbans, designed for ease and comfort, available for free pickup. These services are part of our commitment to offer compassionate support and practical solutions to help cancer survivors navigate their journey with dignity and hope.
Who is this program for?
- You must be able to pick up the wig in person at the Jewish General Hospital in Montreal. We can not ship wigs.
- People with cancer who are currently undergoing chemotherapy treatment.
- Participants do not need to be patients at the JGH.
- The service is available to anyone experiencing hair loss due to cancer treatment.
What does the program offer?
- Free wig selection and fitting assistance from experienced volunteers.
- Access to hundreds of wigs in various styles, colours, and textures.
- A wig cap with each wig for hygiene and comfort.
- Care instructions to help maintain the wig.
- The option to keep the wig permanently or return it if desired.
How can people join the program?
- Schedule an appointment using the button above or call the Hope & Cope office of the JGH at 514-340-8255. While scheduling an appointment is not mandatory, we strongly recommend it.
- Visit in person during the appointment to try on selected wigs.
- Alternative: Visit the JGH office in person and speak with any volunteer. However, if the volunteer is assisting someone who has an appointment, you may have to wait before receiving assistance..
Important things to know
- You can browse the online inventory (below) at home to preselect 2-3 wigs to try on. Our wig selection changes continually, so a specific wig might no longer be available when it comes time to try it on.
- One wig per person. The first wig is free.
- Wigs are available right away.
- The colour of the wig in inventory is the only colour we have for that wig. We cannot alter the colour of a wig.
- In-person visits required (no mailing available).
- You have one month to decide if the wig works. You may exchange the wig within that one-month period.
- Exchanges are available for a $25 service fee (to cover cleaning).
- One person can accompany you to the appointment.
- Wigs can be put on hold for up to one week while deciding.
- Synthetic wigs cannot be dyed or used for swimming.
