Meet Sheila Kussner, O.C., O.Q., C.O.M., the visionary philanthropist and founder of Hope & Cope. Since 1981, Sheila has been shaping community-based, peer-led psychosocial cancer support. Her groundbreaking work has transformed oncology care in Montreal and beyond. A cancer survivor herself, Sheila founded Hope & Cope with a belief in survivor-led support and Hope & Cope’s innovative model has been recognized globally. Sheila’s fundraising prowess led to the establishment of Oncology as a distinct discipline at McGill University. Among many other innovations, she opened the first hospital-affiliated Cancer Wellness Center in Quebec, and her commitment to research resulted in the creation of the Christine and Herschel Victor/ Hope & Cope Chair in Psychosocial Oncology. Sheila’s exceptional contributions have earned her numerous accolades, including Officer of the Order of Canada, Order of Quebec, and Commander of the Order of Montreal.
